The Third Movement
Hello Thaïs, congratulations on your latest release on The Third Movement, and thanks for taking some time for this interview. Let’s start with an easy one; for the people who lived under a rock the past months, who is Thaïs aka Hysta?
“Hello team! Thank you so much for having me here! I’m Thais, I’m 23 years old. I’m French, but I actually used to live in many countries. And of course I’m a hardcore producer and DJ.”
When did you take your first steps in the DJ world, and when did you start producing?
“In fact, I started to learn both almost in the same time, but at first I was only playing old school hardcore on vinyl and started with producing « acid / acid core » music on Fl Studio back when I was 16 years old. And at that time I was only performing in French rave parties, I started to play in clubs few time after.”
What can you tell us about your new track ‘My Secret’?
“Ah! My Secret has a very special meaning to me!
First of all, is it kind of the biggest achievement of my career because is it released on my favorite hardcore label since the very beginning : Third Movement. Which for me is a real institution in the hardcore scene.
In second part, because in this track I really wanted to keep that old school vibe and sounds from the good old times of hardcore. Mixed with the quality of actual sounds, to me, it’s just the perfect recipe !
And, I used vocal from ‘Bring me the Horizon’ because I love the violence in their lyrics, and also because I used to be a big fan of their music when I was younger.”
How would you describe your style?
“It’s complicated to describe my style, because I have a lot of different influences. Let’s call it ‘Hystyle’. But maybe something between Old School / Mainstream / Millennium / Frenchcore ahahah ? It’s up to you.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
“I can’t tell the future, but I would love to be beside the artist I admire.”
Have you ever played in Belgium 😄?
“Only at private parties for now, but I really would love to play there. I visited Belgium many times already and I really love this country because there are so many beautiful places! And of course because I love their fries 😁”
One for the ‘computer nerds’; What DAW do you use and what’s your favorite plugin?
“I work on Cubase, and for VST’s I really love Serum (I won’t be original ahah), Spire and Sylenth. The one I love and hate in the same time is the synth Access Virus, because it has such a great sound but it’s so damn bugged !”
What would you consider your biggest achievement so far?
“Without any hesitation, singing on Third Movement !”
What do you do for a living?
“During the week I’m an artistic director in a Macaron factory (french pastry). I also have my own company as a freelance designer so I for many sectors in different countries which is really exciting for me.”
How has Covid-19 affected your career and do you think corona will be over soon?
“On one hand it was actually very hard to handle, because I’m someone who always needs to travel, meet people, set up many projects… But on the other hand it also gave me more time to work on different things. Things I would not think about in a normal period.
I used to be very creative, mostly about creating my own video clips (from scenario, video montage, effects etc..) and also I recorded a lot of livestreams in many places, even one in an airport.
During the last 2 months I already had the opportunity to perform in many difference places such as France, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Croatia, Switzerland… and to be honest it would be so hard for me to have to stop performing again… So I hope it can continue!”
What are your three favorite tracks you made?
“That’s a hard choice ! But I would say :
-Fuck 2020
-My Secret
-Gabber Madness”
What are your three favorite tracks from other producers?
“This is just so hard to only choose three! I will choose three that I really love at this moment :
-Furyan – Bass Journey
-Lem-X & Tha Watcher – The Origins
-The Satan – Demolition”
