An interview about strange things… Occult Rituals

1. How has Covid affected your routine?
It didn’t.. i wasn’t playing gigs before covid so in that way it wasn’t very effective on my musical persuite. Ofcours not being able to go out and being social is a massive impact on my creativity but i got my ways to beat it.

2. Who or what is a source of inspiration for you?

Ghoh actiually a lot that isn’t related to hardcore. Ofcourse there are some influences in hardcore like E-dub/ detest/.. everyone who has destingued sound and are a contribution to my own sound.. my mindset is like this ‘if i can learn from listening to it, i’ll listen it untill i get it’.

Except from hardcore i take a lot of influence from drum and bass/ acid/ rock and metal/ hip hop in all his ways/ breakbeat and cinematic music.

3. How much influence does music have on your life?
A massive one haha.. i wake up with it and i go to sleep with it. You can’t imagine how many series i’ve seen without having a clue what happend because i’m sitting with a headset on my head. I’m always looking for new inspiration. Even when i’m at work or so, i’m always thinking about music and production.

4. What is / was your ultimate high?
I think for me a musical high is when i come in to a state of flow (could use it for a titel hahaha). What means i’m going in to beastmode with some steroids on top of it.

Being able to write a whole track in a couple hours (wich are most of the times the ones that do the best). Having an idea in my head and being able to translate it to my daw. The track writes itself but it’s not ready. The main idea and arrangement are there and i only have to apply edits and mix it down for mastering. For me that’s the ultimate high.

5. What do you have in store for the coming months in the field of music?
Well i got another ep almost ready for nwo! I just got to do some more edits and mix it down.. i’m also working on the low on a project in an other genre because i don’t want to identify myself trough genre.. i really think experimenting with other genres is the best way to kill creative block because you got to step out of that comfort zone you’re used to.

6. How much influence does your environment have on your taste?
None.. rather my vibe.. if i’m feeling like ott energetic i produce 9/10 times hardcore/ crossbreed.. when i’m in an energetic but relaxed vibe it would dnb.. when i’m in a darker mood i go to acid because of the mental/ obscure aspect of it and when i’m in a chill mode it is always hiphop just to vibe on it. Each genre teaches me other things and i apply it to different genres to create a sound i can call my own.

7. What is perfection for you?

It’s verry subjective i think.. because of the different aspects. I had a period where i’d try to chase perfection in my own productions and the only thing i found was a brick wall i ran in to haha! I wasn’t seeing my own progression and most of all i wasn’t having fun anymore. So i think for me in person, finding perfection is a matter of accepting the imperfections and growing from there.

8. Suppose you were obliged to forbid something, what would that be?

Piepkicks for sure hahaa.. i know a lot of guys who loved going to hardcore and really lived for it who now are looking for something else, because of the piepkicks.

I have been experimenting with some higher tones myself but i came to the realisation that it’s just trash for me. I really think it’s a shame that so many guys are doing it because there is no identification anymore. But ofcourse that’s not only the problem in hardcore. It’s a bit like a sun i think, it wil try to find ways to improve itself, make it harder/ stronger from within but it will end up destroying itself.

9. To apply what we call “divide and conquer”: Android or Apple?

Android for sure hahaha

10. Describe the Hardcore scene in the year 2020. And what would you change to that year with today’s information?

Ghoh hard one.. euhm.. i think the hardcore scene gained a couple good artists like mykoz who are able to step out of the box and are doing their own thing instead of chasing likes/ views. What i would change is the way how people in this scene go over education.. massive amounts of money to gain no knowledge. Acting like it’s a big secret how to do sertain things instead of helping their fellow producers. I really think this is why for example edm/ dubstep/ dnb/ techno/.. are so big in comparisation. There is more good educative content instead of a noobie just throwing a EQ and distortion unit on a 909 without knowing the basics and teaching a method that is not that accurate.

11. Suppose you had an unlimited budget, what would you do?

I would donate some to cancer research since my mom had it twice (luckely she did survive bith times). I would donate to clean the seas and restore more of our nature because we have only one planet and it may not be us but our children or grandchildren may suffer from the consiquences of our egoism. And i would leave everything behind with the people i love and travel all the time to with my laptop so i can keep producing ofcourse haha!

12. What did you think of the 90’s “gabber” concept?

Facinating! I’ve seen all the docu’s about it at least 10x. I’ve grown up in a household where my parents did go to the old goa/ illegal raves so since a kid i’ve been listening to this type sounds. Untill now the day i still listen to early and i oove it for it’s simplicity. The way they did what they did trough hardware and sampling is just insane and ofcourse i envy the party’s.. they looked like the defenition of insanity!
